Materiality Assessment

Since the development of our Sustainability Report 2014/15, we have conducted annual stakeholder engagement exercises as part of the materiality assessment process to identify and prioritise the sustainability issues to be covered in each report. In 2019/20, we commenced a review of our materiality assessment process with a view to adopting a more systematic and strategic approach to create more business value for AAHK. Based on the findings of the review, we will formulate a multi-year materiality assessment plan to guide our future stakeholder engagement exercises beginning with our next sustainability report.

Materiality assessment process

In preparing this report, we have adopted the following two-step approach to determine the most important and relevant sustainability issues and hence define the report content.

Step one
Identify materiality issues

  • A list of important sustainability issues was compiled based on previous sustainability reports.

  • The relevance of the sustainability issues was determined based on the following sources:

    • Business plans

    • Internal policies and management reports

    • Industry trends

    • International and local sustainability reporting frameworks
such as the GRI reporting framework and HKEX
      ESG Reporting Guide

  • 24 issues were identified as the most important and relevant sustainability issues and grouped into four categories – Economic and Society, Environment, Operating Practices, and People – for senior management’s review and validation.

Step two
Senior management review and validation

  • AAHK’s senior management was shown with the list of identified issues and invited to give feedback.

  • Following the consolidation of comments from AAHK’s senior management, 24 issues were confirmed as the most important sustainability issues to be addressed in this report.
